How do I use my Human Design to choose a career?
Human Design won't name a profession for you — it constrains how you should enter work and what rhythm you can sustain, which is more useful than a job list. Your Type sets the entry mechanism: Generators and Manifesting Generators respond to real openings rather than applying on principle, Projectors wait to be recognized and invited, Manifestors initiate and inform, and Reflectors need a full lunar cycle before committing. Your Authority then decides between the specific options in front of you.
The second filter is energy, and it rules more out than most people expect. A defined Sacral can sustain a full day of work it responded to; an undefined Sacral cannot, no matter how much the role is wanted, so a Projector or Manifestor choosing a career should be looking at intensity and control over their own schedule as hard as at subject matter.
The third layer is Profile, which describes how you get established: a line 1 needs to know the foundation before feeling competent, a line 4 tends to move through their network rather than open applications, a line 5 is repeatedly asked to solve other people's problems. If you only use one thing, use your Strategy — most career mistakes in the system are entry mistakes, not subject-matter mistakes.

- Does my chart say which industry to work in?
- No. It describes how to engage and how much you can sustain, not subject matter — the specific role still comes from what shows up and what your Authority says about it.
- What if I'm in the wrong job already?
- The Not-Self theme is the readout — frustration for Generators, bitterness for Projectors, anger for Manifestors, disappointment for Reflectors. Persistent presence of it is the signal to re-examine the entry.
- Do Projectors have to work part-time?
- Not necessarily, but sustainable Projector work usually means control over the schedule and recognition for the perspective they bring rather than hours logged.
