What is Human Design based on?
Human Design is a synthesis of four traditions: Western astrology (planetary positions at birth), the I Ching (its 64 hexagrams map directly to the 64 Gates), Kabbalah's Tree of Life (which informs the structure of the nine Centers), and the Hindu-Brahmin chakra system. Ra Uru Hu (born Alan Robert Krakower) put the system together in January 1987, reporting he received it over eight days in Ibiza, Spain.
Each tradition contributes a specific layer to the BodyGraph chart. Astrology supplies the raw data — the positions of the Sun, Moon, and planets at two moments: your exact birth, and roughly 88 days before it. The I Ching's 64 hexagrams become the 64 Gates that those planetary positions activate. Kabbalah's Tree of Life gives the chart its nine-Center structure, and the chakra system lends the idea of centers as energy hubs in the body.
